For Patients

At Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania, your care and wellbeing is our top priority. Our team of world-renowned physicians uses state-of-the-art technology to provide the most advanced treatments available in a warm, friendly atmosphere. If you have any questions or you need anything to make your visit more comfortable, just ask.

To help make your visit go as smoothly as possible, we've created these resources to help you make and prepare for your appointment.

Making an Appointment

To make an appointment, please call us at one of our convenient locations.

Established patients who would like to schedule an appointment can call the office and provide the following information:

· The physician you want to see
· Your desired appointment date
· Your desired appointment time
· The reason for your visit

What To Bring

When you schedule your appointment, you will receive information about what to bring and how to prepare for your visit, if necessary. Although a member of our staff will tell you specifically what you will need to bring, information we typically require includes:

· A list of your current medications (prescribed and over-the-counter), vitamins, and any herbal supplements that you might be taking
· Your insurance information
· A referral, if your health insurance provider requires it
· Completed new patient paperwork if necessary (Click here to download new patient paperwork. Note: You must have access to a printer.)
· Your co-payment or deductible: You may be asked to pay for services not covered by insurance. Please bring cash, check, or major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express).

Be prepared to provide a urine sample during your visit.

Managed care organizations require that patients obtain a referral from their primary care physician to see a specialist. We previously have been able to obtain referrals for patients. Because the number of managed care patients has increased, we can no longer provide this service. Therefore, patients must obtain the initial referral and know how many follow-up visits are allowed as well as referral expiration dates.

We also require payment on any outstanding balances due at the time of service.

Billing

We have professional billing staff in each of our medical offices to answer any questions you might have. For your convenience, we accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express.

Questions

Q. How do I make an Appointment?
A.

We see patients by appointment only. Any emergency will always be attended to promptly. All routine matters including prescription renewals should be handled during normal office hours.

We are aware that your time is valuable to you. We strive to run our schedules on time, although occasionally an emergency will delay us. Our staff will keep you advised should there be any substantial delay in our office so that you would have the option of either waiting or rescheduling your appointment.

Q. What Instructions should I follow if I am having surgery?
A.

Day Before Surgery

We will call you the day before surgery to review pre-operative instructions and confirm arrival times. It is important to remember:

  • As required by law, patients under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian remain at the Center throughout the surgical procedure and recovery time.
  • Do not take aspirin or any anti-inflammatory medications for one week prior to the procedure unless you receive other instructions from your doctor.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the evening before surgery.
  • Make arrangements for a family member or friend to stay with you at the Urologic Consultants of Southeast Pennsylvania on the day of surgery. You will not be permitted to drive yourself home.

Day of Surgery

The following instructions are important to follow on the day of your surgery. These instructions are for your safety, comfort and convenience.

  • Do not eat or drink anything, including water.
  • Take important medications with only a sip of water.
  • Do not take aspirin or any anti-inflammatory medications for one week prior to the procedure unless you receive other instructions from your doctor.
  • Arrive at the scheduled time.
  • Leave piercings, jewelry, money, credit cards, and other valuables at home.
  • Do not wear nail polish.
  • Check in with the Operating Room Receptionist and complete the questionnaire concerning health status.
  • Wear loose clothing that can be both removed and put on easily. We will secure your clothes in a private locker and provide a patient gown for you to wear. After changing, the anesthesiologist will meet with you to discuss your anesthesia.
  • A family member or friend must remain at the surgery center during the procedure. That person will be responsible for driving you home.

After Surgery

After surgery you will be attended by a Recovery Room Nurse. The surgeon will speak with a family member or close friend regarding the results of the surgery. A summary of your surgeon's instructions concerning medications, bandages and a date for a follow-up visit will be provided at discharge. For your comfort and safety for the next 24 hours after surgery:

  • Be sure to resume taking any prescription drugs that you are required to take in addition to medications prescribed by your surgeon.
  • Be sure to have a responsible adult stay with you for the first 24 hours.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages.
  • Do not drive a vehicle.
  • Do not operate heavy equipment.
  • Do not sign important documents or make significant decisions.
Q. When do I get my lab results?
A. When your lab results are normal, it is our policy to mail you notification of any lab work you have done in our office. Please be patient! It may take up to two weeks to receive your card.

If your tests are abnormal, you can expect a phone call from a nurse or physician within at least three days after our receipt of your lab results. Due to the volume of calls we receive each day, we ask that you wait for this notification, rather than call for results. We will call you immediately with any abnormal results. If you do not hear from us after two weeks from your office visit, please feel free to call our office. A nurse can pull your chart and give you your lab results.

Q. How can I prepare for my appointment?
A. Please assist us by remembering to bring the following to your appointment:
  • Referral form (for HMO insurance, if required).
  • Insurance cards and a means of identification such as a driver's license or social security card.
  • List of current medications you are taking including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and any vitamins or herbal supplements.
  • Relevant information about your medical and surgical history. Bring any pertinent x-rays or records you may have.
  • Important questions you would like to ask the doctor.

If you think your medical problem is life threatening, call 911 immediately.
