The Albert Einstein Medical Center's Division of Urology was visible on the National scene this past week and will be represented at the International conference in Cancun, Mexico. At the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons meeting in San Francisco, October 18-24, 2008, nine posters and nine papers were presented representing Einstein Urology. The residents received 3 awards for posters and 3 prizes for papers. Dr. Jamison Jaffe Attending Urologist at Einstein presented a Poster "Prostate Size and Clinical Outcomes: Does Size Matter? Dr. Justin Harmon, Attending Urologist at Einstein presented an invited didactic lecture on The Use of Robotics in Urologic Surgery. Dr. Michael Metro, Attending Urologist at Einstein and Director of Urologic Trauma and Reconstruction, presented two invited didactic lectures, Update on the Diagnosis and Management of Urologic Trauma and Management of Urethral Stricture Disease. T. Casey McCullough, recent graduate of the urology residency program and former surgical resident at Einstein, won the Resident Achievement Award, given to only 5 residents in the country. Dr. Brian Sperling presented a paper and poster "25-year Follow-up of Ileal Conduit for Neurogenic Bladder" Dr. Tavis Shaw presented "Intracellular Zinc Deficiency Promotes Tumorigenicity in Prostate Cancer Cells." This paper won first prize for poster session Dr. Jason Gerboc presented "Rapidly Developing Flouroquinolone Resistance to Common Pathogens" Dr. Tia Shellato presented "Sociodemographic Factors Influencing the AUA symptom Score" Dr. Pedro Maria presented "TURP: A Comparison of Practice Patterns (1989-2005)" Dr. Jaspreet Singh presented "Prostate Size Predicts Hematuria After Cryotherapy of the Prostate" Dr. Sean Castellucci presented "Darifenacin is Safe in Men with Increased Post-Void Residuals" Dr. Shawn Thomas presented "Family Practice Perspective on the Treatment of Men with Lower Urinary Symptoms" At the Mid-Atlantic Section Meeting of the American Urologic Association, in Bermuda, Dr. Richard Harkaway, Attending Einstein Urologist, Moderated a Round Table Discussion on Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.
