![]() Residency Program The Urology Residency of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine began in the early 1970s under the direction of Dr. Leonard Finklestein. In the early 1980s, an important relationship with the Albert Einstein Medical Center was formed and has continued flourish. The directorship of the program transferred to Dr. Phillip C. Ginsberg, Esq. in the early 1990s and since that time has grown in the number of residents and in the scope of training opportunities. At this time, the program has nine residents and will increase to 12 in July 2008. With the addition of Richard Harkaway in 1995 and Michael Metro in 2001, the program has expanded its local, national and international standing with research and paper presentations at national and international conferences. January 2007 and July 2007 brought a new dimension to the training program. Jamison Jaffe, followed by Justin Harmon after completing fellowships in advanced urologic laparoscopy in Paris, France, has added expertise in robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery for complicated urologic conditions. At this time, the residents have rotations at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Hahnemann Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Northeastern Hospital, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. The residents participate actively in urologic research to answer questions about many urologic conditions and add significant findings to the urologic literature. Attending urologic surgeons take an active role in the training program, with journal clubs, textbook and weekly resident conferences and close supervision in the operating rooms and clinics. Urologic Consultants makes up the core training staff, including Laurence Belkoff at Hahnemann University Hospital and Lawrence Solish at NEH. |
