Minimally Invasive Therapies for BPH

Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania has long been on the cutting edge of therapies for lower urinary tract voiding dysfunction due to an enlarged prostate. While many medical therapies can be effective, there are times when medical therapy fails or patients may choose a more permanent solution to their problem.

Minimally invasive therapies such as Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy (TUMT) are available and are performed in the office. TUMT can provide patients lasting improvement in their voiding symptoms by heating the prostate during a 45 minute outpatient procedure.

In addition, an alternative to the classic Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) is now being performed. The Greenlight laser prostatectomy utilizes a laser to vaporize tissue. This reduces the risk of bleeding and patients may not be required to stay overnight in the hospital after their procedure.
