Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

New Image

ED is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sex. You may have ED if you are unable to get an erection at all, you can get an erection sometimes but not every time, or you can get an erection but it does not last long enough for sex. ED is sometimes called impotence, although we use this term less often now.

The National Institutes of Health estimates that ED affects as many as 30 million men in the United States. While it occurs more often as you get older, it is not an inevitable part of aging. ED is treatable at any age.

A healthy sex life is part of a healthy life. Don’t be afraid to seek help, especially if you have problems for more than a few weeks. ED can be a sign of other health problems, such as diabetes or heart disease.
